 OUR BACKGROUND
iMandarin Training is a division of the well-known NeWorld Education Group founded in 1997.  NeWorld Education Group specializes in language training, including Japanese, English and Business English. Some other professional skills, such as IT and vocational training, are also available.  In 2003 Tina Xiang was asked to head a new subsidiary group focusing mainly on Chinese language training.  iMandarin was thus created. 
At iMandarin we pride ourselves on providing Chinese language training to the multi-national corporations and foreign individuals in Shanghai.  In addition to offering specialized language courses, we also offer corporate training and consultation services.  In the past few years we have served numerous clients and always strive to provide first class service. 
We have ten conveniently located campuses to accommodate our many clients.  Each campus has professionally trained Chinese language teachers whose chief concern is facilitating their students' language development.

iMandarin also provides Chinese cultural activities for our students. Students interested in learning more about Chinese culture are offered many weekly activities, and once a month, a trip to one of Shanghai’s many heritage sites is scheduled.

Teachers Department

Courses
To accommodate diverse goals of our students, iMandarin offers two programs, Standard Mandarin and Academic Mandarin.
Our Standard Mandarin program is designed for students wishing to learn mandarin for day-to-day life. Every week, we have new group classes starting for different levels.
Our Academic Mandarin program places more emphasis on reading, writing, speaking, and listening comprehension. This program helps prepare students for the HSK. Students can enroll in the spring or fall semester.
 
l        STANDARD Mandarin Course
The course is designed for students who have busy schedule and do not have time for a long time study plan. Started from Chinese phonetic knowledge called “Pinyin”, then focused on basic daily conversation such as living, working and traveling in China, the course enables you easily ‘’survive” in daily life. You can take class level by level according to your specific situation and requirement with purpose of improving your ability of Mandarin gradually. We offer part time (2-3 sessions/week) and intensive group class (4-5 sessions/week), with 2.5 or 3 hours each session.

Survival Mandarin Course
Elementary courses
My Chinese Classroom 1-3
40 hours for each course
Starting from Pin Yin, focusing on listening and speaking ability for daily life. Upon completion of the three beginner courses, students shall be able to conduct simple daily conversations.
Intermediate courses
Intermediate Spoken Chinese 1-3
50 hours for each course
Focus on natural, vivid spoken Chinese mainly involving expatriates’ day-to-day life in China. Upon completion of the courses, students shall be able to employ appropriate expressions within different contexts, and to compose complex sentences and paragraphs to express personal opinions fluently in selecting topics.
Advanced courses
Advanced Spoken Chinese 1-2
60 hours for each course
The courses help students expand their vocabulary, reach native-speaker fluency and deepen the understanding of Chinese culture and society.
Business Chinese Courses
Beginner business courses 1~3
Totally 150 hours
These courses cover with fundamental communication Chinese in the business world, such as, daily intercommunication, business etiquette, commercial activities, negotiating and consulting skills.
Intermediate Business Courses 1~2
Totally 120 hours
These courses enable students to arrange business, social and etiquette activities with fluent Chinese and without too much difficulty.
Advanced Business Courses 1~2
Totally 100 hours
These courses focus on various hot topics of economic life in contemporary China, mostly conducted by group discussion to help students deepen the understanding of these topics.
 
 


Survival Mandarin Course
Instruction is available at beginning, intermediate and advanced levels.
 
Beginner Courses The beginner level includes three courses – beginner I, beginner II & beginner III.
These courses are suitable for students who have had no previous mandarin instruction. Upon completion of the beginner courses, students should have a command of more than 1,000 basic words and 200 sentences. This will enable students to conduct and understand simple communication in daily life, such as, greeting, self introduction, shopping, taking taxi, making appointment, asking for help, ordering food, seeing doctors, booking tickets, communicating with housekeeper, etc. 
 
Intermediate Courses
The intermediate level includes three courses –Intermediate I, Intermediate II & Intermediate III.
These courses are suitable for students who have achieved beginner level or possess a vocabulary of approximately 1,000 words. The courses focus on topics concerning the expat experience in China, whether it be living, working or traveling. As a primary classroom activity, dialogue excise will be conducted so as to enable students to master different expression under different situations. Upon completion of the courses, students should have a command of about 1,800 words, as well as the ability of speaking fluent Chinese in daily life using complex sentences.
 
Advanced Courses
The advanced level includes two courses–Advanced I and Advanced II.
The course is suitable for students who have achieved intermediate level or possess a vocabulary of approximately 2,000 words. It focuses on communication skills through discussion of current issues in society, for example; the economy, culture, and other facets of China. The texts are mostly selected from magazine, newspaper and literature. There will be a unique topic in each lesson, such as, “Knowing Yourself”, “Leisure and Entertainment”, or “Human beings and the natural science”, etc. Upon completion of the course, students should have a command of about 1,500 new words, including slang, phrases, and especially, the way how local people speaking. In addition, students will acquire a better understanding of Chinese society and Culture and further perfect their language ability.
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
Business Chinese Courses
 
Preliminary Business Chinese
The course is designed for businessmen who know little or no Chinese to begin with, but in the hope that they could learn practical and basic Chinese knowledge and skills in the business world, and that they could only take lessons in off hours. In this course, such communication skills will be taught as follows:
1.      Ability to use appropriate expressions on polite social occasion of reception, greeting, introduction, apology and congratulations.
2.      Ability to use appropriate expressions for shopping, traveling, telephoning and appointment making.
3.      Ability to use appropriate expressions for commercial activities such as giving a brief account of a company and its product, getting or giving comment or statement.
4.      Ability to use appropriate expressions in consulting, negotiation, bargaining, writing or revising a plan, discussing a way to cooperate, making a comment on a subject in addition to analyzing and sorting out problems.
Furthermore, the knowledge of Chinese culture, custom, social status, as well as business custom and rules will also be taught systematically. Upon completion of the course, students should have a command of about 1,200 new words and 200 sentence patterns, and the ability of conducting basic communication with Chinese people in the business world.
 
Intermediate Business Chinese
The course is designed for students who have achieved beginner or intermediate level. The contents consist of company organization, company equipments, arranging schedule, meeting, presentation of work plan, discussing business development, advertisement, complain and explanations, hiring and firing employees, training, enterprise culture, and business letter, etc. upon of completion of the course, students should have a command of about 1,600 new words, and the ability of dealing with daily work in fluent Chinese and arranging business activities without too much difficulty.
 
Advanced Business Chinese
The course is designed for students who have achieved intermediate level and can recognize Chinese characters. In the class, the tutor will conduct group discussion in some hot and sensitive topics covering contemporary China and the world’s economic life, such as, “savings and consumption”, “exhibition industry”, “marketing strategy”, “rising sun industry”, “economical and social development”, which involves students in an authentic context to learn concrete business terms and phrases. Meanwhile, students will acquire deeper understanding of Chinese society, economy and people’s life. Upon completion of the course, students should have a command of about 1,000 new words, with great improvement of reading and comprehension of economic articles.
 
 
 
SPECIAL COURSES
Customized courses designed to meet the special needs of our clients.
 
Preparation For HSKPrepare students for taking the HSK (hàn yǔ shuǐ pín ɡ kǎo shì/汉语水平考试).  This course is designed to provide students with methods that will assist them in attaining a high score on the HSK. While the course content includes grammar, vocabulary, reading comprehension and writing, the primary focus is on test taking skills and strategies.
 
Chinese Course for Children
We offer 5 courses for the children of different levels.
The course is designed for students who are under 18-year-old. Students’ speaking ability training will be given the priority through various interesting and dramatic teaching activities, which are in line with children’s cognitive features. In addition, a number of Chinese characters will be taught as the supplement in the class. Upon completion of the course, students should have a command of about 2,000 new words and 1,500 Chinese Characters, and the ability of conducting daily communication fluently, reading essays, as well as the understanding of Chinese culture and custom.
 
Professional -- special area, like finance, chemicals, literature, etc.
If you want to study for professional purpose, such as finance, chemicals, literature, etc, we will customize the vocabulary content of the text materials on an on-going basis , seek advice and comments from you to cater your specific requirements. These courses normally will be arranged for private tutor.
 
Chinese Character Course
This course covers the history, composition and system of Chinese character writing. Upon completion of the course, students should be able to recognize and write more than 1,000 Chinese characters, which cover 90% of the everyday reading material such as newspapers.
 
Shanghai Dialect
Suitable for students who possess a good command of oral Chinese for everyday life. The course is designed to give students fundamental knowledge of the Shanghai dialect, a language spoken by millions of Chinese people in and around Shanghai.
 
Chinese Culture Courses
The Culture courses are group or individual class focusing on specific aspects of traditional Chinese culture, such as, Chinese wash painting, calligraphy, and Tai Chi.
